Drone Flight Controllers

By combining an array of sensors such as the gyroscope, magnetometer, and accelerometer with GPS, flight control CPUs can use data about the UAV's status, speed, position, and direction to guide the vehicle's flight and operation according to parameters. It is determined by the user. Other sensors may also allow the autopilot to avoid obstacles and collisions while operating.

Fully autonomous UAVs can perform all flight plans, including VTOL or runway takeoffs, in-flight maneuvers and landing. In some UAV autopilot systems, besides the fully automatic setting, there are also options to operate the UAVs with manual or assisted manual function. Most UAV autopilots have single or multiple backup systems to keep the vehicle in flight and operational in the event of a system failure.

UAV autopilot systems are available for all types of UAVs, including fixed wings, multi-engines, helicopter drones, parafoils, balloons and tethered drones. Some manufacturers use a common set of hardware and software to run all these vehicles using dedicated flight stages and control channels. Others may use the same hardware with different software.
